Heilige Berg Athos sinds 2008 op Griekse regiozegels

het klooster Simonos Petras dat ik 12 jaar geleden bezocht, staat sinds mei vorig jaar op een postzegel van Agion Oros Athos
(…) Our purpose in creating these stamps is to raise the global profile of the holy monasteries and their history, architecture, rare manuscripts, relics, holy vessels and way of life, as well as the flora and fauna and natural beauty of the region. Our hope is that people all over the world will be inspired to find out more about Agion Oros and the social, political, cultural and religious life of its inhabitants.
The beauty and uniqueness of official Agion Oros stamps, with their superb design and wide variety of depictions, will satisfy even the most demanding of stamp collectors, and will allow the public to share in the spirituality and distinctiveness of the region. (…)

On his journeys the First-Called Apostle endured many sufferings and torments from pagans: they cast him out of their cities and they beat him. In Sinope they pelted him with stones, but remaining unharmed, the persistant disciple of Christ continued to preach to people about the Savior. Through the prayers of the Apostle, the Lord worked miracles. By the labors of the holy Apostle Andrew, Christian Churches were established, for which he provided bishops and clergy. The final city to which the Apostle came was the city of Patras, where he was destined to suffer martyrdom.
