The devil and Daniel JohnstonThe Devil and Daniel Johnston is a 2006 documentary film about the noted American artist Daniel Johnston. It chronicles Johnston’s life from childhood up to the present, with an emphasis on his experiences with bipolar disorder, and how it manifested itself in demonic self-obsession. The film was directed by Jeff Feuerzeig and produced by Henry S. Rosenthal. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a rating of 89 percent, based on 102 reviews, and stated the critical consensus as: “Whether you think this mentally ill cult musician is worthy of being called a ‘genius’, this document of his life is crafted with sincere respect and is fascinating to watch.

This film takes advantage of the fact that Johnston has practically documented his entire life on video or audio tapes, and features many interviews with famous friends and colleagues. It shows his unbelievable cameo on an early episode of MTV’s Cutting Edge, footage of an early love interest named Laurie Allen, as well as chronicling his rise to world-wide acclaim when singer Kurt Cobain simply wore the infamous “Hi, How Are You?“ t-shirt featuring Johnston’s alien frog design.

Een van de mooiste Nederlandse websites die ik de laatste tijd tegenkwam, is postzegelontwerpen.nl. Deze website is eerder een online applicatie die het best tot zijn recht komt in full screen. De mogelijkheden van Flash zijn funktioneel toegepast. Postzegels en ontwerpen kunnen op een ondergrond van ruitjespapier versleept en vergroot worden. Met een tijdbalk kan de hele Nederlandse postzegelgeschiedenis vanaf 1852 doorlopen worden.

Hugh Ferriss (1889-1962) was an American delineator (one who creates perspective drawings of buildings) and architect. According to Daniel Okrent, Ferriss never designed a single noteworthy building, but after his death a colleague said he ‘influenced my generation of architects’ more than any other man. Ferriss also influenced popular culture, for example Gotham City (the setting for Batman) and Kerry Conran’s Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
